CWDM is a technique for transmitting signals by fiber, whih means division multiplexing light wavelengths. CWDM was standardized by the ITU-T on the recommendation of the G. 694.2 standard in 2002, based on a grid or wavelength separation of 20nm(or 2500 GHz) in range of 1270-1610 nm, and can carry up to 18 wavelengths via a singel pair fiber.
The main building blocks used in CWDM Network are Multiplexer and Demuliplexer.
CWDM MUX DEMUX- The passive CWDM MUX building block can aggregates wavelengths of light from several transmitter sources(TX) and transmits the combined linght into one fiber. Eash wavelength of light remains unchanged and transparent in the presence of neighboring wavelengths. Typically, CWDM MUX and DEMUXE modules are designed with a minumum of 4 channels to a maximum of 16 channels.
OADM- is illustrated in a protedted ring system. OADMs provide access to a singel or even more wavelengths of a wavelength-multiplexed system increasing the possibility of networking. Although this greatly improves the flexibility for CWDM, the insertion loss of these devices poses a challenge on the design of rings as CWDM uses no optical amplitication to overcome losses.
CWDM Transceiver- with embedded transmitter and receiver functions in a single packaged module. With different grades of performance, and have been integrated into WDM networks for point to point links, metro and core networks and storage area networks (SAN) applications such as data-center mirroring.
FiberStore CWDM transceivers can operate on 9/125um single-mode fiber to 40km or 80km by using special CWDM channels (1270nm to 1610nm, in steps of 20nm).
CWDM SFP transceiver- CWDM SFP Transceiver is a convenient and cost-effective solution for the adoption of Gigabit Ethernet and Fiber Channel(FC) in campus, data-center, and metropolitan-area access networks, with maximum optical budget 41dB. FiberStore CWDM SFP modules support data rates from 100 Mbps up to 4.25 Gbps. There are 18 center wavelengths available from 1270 nm to 1610 nm, with each step 20 nm. These wavelengths are compliant to the ITU G.694 CWDM standard
CWDM GBIC transceiver- CWDM GBIC transceivers are high performance, cost effective modules supporting data-rate of 1.25Gbps and 40km transmission distance with SMF. The transceivers meet the Gigabit Interface Converter (GBIC) specification Rev.5.5, for serial optical data communications such as Gigabit Ethernet 1000BASE-ZX and Fiber Channel 1x SM-LC-L FC-PI application. This module is designed for single-mode fiber and operates at a nominal wavelength of CWDM wavelength. There are eighteen center wavelengths available from 1270 nm to 1610 nm, with each step 20 nm.The transmitter section uses a multiple quantum well CWDM DFB laser and is a class 1 laser compliant according to International Safety Standard IEC-60825. The receiver section uses an integrated InGaAs detector preamplifier (IDP) mounted in an optical header and a limiting post-amplifier IC.
