1000Base-SX Standard and 1000Base-SX SFP Module
An Ethernet standard that transmits at 1 Gbps. Used mostly to connect high-end workstations and servers as well as for network backbones, Gigabit Ethernet transmits full duplex from point to point using switches and half duplex in a shared environment (CSMA/CD) using a hub.
The first IEEE Gigabit Ethernet standard (802.3z) was defined in 1997 for use over multimode optical fiber and two years later for copper cables
1000BASE-SX is one of the IEEE802.3z standard made for the laser transceiver witch work on short wavelength multimode fiber (850mm). When use 62.5pm multimode fiber, link distances can be up to 260m; when use 50pm multimode fiber, connection distance up to 550m.
1000Base SX SFP is the small form hot swappable fiber optic transceiver, which work with multimode fiber for linking. When used with 62.5 MMF its max-working span is around 220 meters, when used with 50 MMF its max-working span is around 550 meters. Typical 1000Base SX transceivers like Cisco GLC SX MM and SFP GE S. the latter is with DOM support and extended working temperature.
The maximum distance between nodes is based on the type of transceiver and cable used as outlined below.
1000Base-SX (802.3z)
62.5 multimode 160 220
62.5 multimode 200 275
50 multimode 400 500
50 multimode 500 550
1000Base SX SFP tranceiver are used in Gigabit Ethernet and they are fully compatible with 1000Base-SX standards defined by IEEE. Fiberstore offer the 1000Base SX SFP transceiver modules, our products are fully compatible with IEEE 802.3z for Gigabit Ethernet and our optical transceivers are fully compatible to use with the equipment from other suppliers.
