Cisco GBIC (the GigaStack the Gigabit Interface Converter) is a generic, low-cost Gigabit Ethernet stacking optical module, provides high-speed connection between the Cisco switch, can establish high-density port on a switch, but also can connect with the server or thousandsmegabit backbone .It provides low-cost, high-performance options for the transition of fast Ethernet to Gigabit Ethernet. In addition, by optical fiber, can achieve aconnection with a remote high-speed backbone network.
WS-G5484 GBIC Multi-mode optical module (850nm-1.25Gb/s-550M-SC)
GBIC module is divided into two categories:ordinary cascade GBIC module and stack dedicated GBIC module.
Cascade GBIC module
Cascade use of GBIC module is divided into 4 kinds:
A 1000Base-T GBIC module, for cat5 or cat6 twisted pair, the maximum transmission distance is to 100 meters.
B 1000Base-SX GBIC module for multi-mode fiber (MMF), thelongest transmission distance is to 500 meters
C 1000Base-LX/LH GBIC module for single-mode fiber (SMF), themaximum transmission distance is to 10 km.
D 1000Base-ZX GBIC, applies to the long-wave single-mode fiber, the maximum transmission distance of 70 km to 100 km.
GBIC module is installed in GBIC slots
Stacking GBIC module
Stacking GBIC module is used to realize switch between low-cost Gigabit connectivity. Shows the GigaStack GBIC stacking modulefor Cisco Catalyst 2950/3550. Should be noted that the GigaStack-GBIC specifically for Gigabit stacking between switches, GigaStack-GBIC connection use specialized stacking cables.
