Xenpak optical module ( shown in Figure)
Xenpak module is connected via 70pin SFP connector andcircuit board, the data channel XAUI interface; Xenpak support allIEEE 802.3ae-defined optical interface, the line side can provide10.3 Gb / s, 9.95 Gb / s or 4 × 3.125 Gb / s rate.
Xenpak transceiver module is packaged in a 4.8 × 1.4 × 0.7 cubicinches of space, built-in 310 nm semiconductor distributed feedback (DFB) laser, direct modulation mode, built-in temperaturecontrol device. The Xenpak G.652 single-mode fiber transmission distance can reach 10 km, suitable for application in themetropolitan area, is the mainstream product of the current 10G Ethernet port. In addition to the photoelectric part of the multiplexing/ demultiplexing module (MUX / DEMUX) is the the Xenpak internal another important feature the Xenpak more than 50% of power is the multiplexing / demultiplexing module consumed, so Xenpak lightlarger module size, power consumption is also large.
The application of the Xenpak transceiver is relatively simple, only one optical module can realize 10G Ethernet optical interfacefunctions. The difficulty of circuit design is the design of high-speeddata interfaces, XAUI, XAUI interface, including eight pairs of rate of3.125 Gb / s, and serial, containing clock differential line. XAUI interface to the performance of a direct impact on the forwarding performance of the system.
Xenpak and X2 optical modules
Xenpak and X2 module are both from the Xenpak standard evolution. Its internal function modules are basically same with Xenpak ,and the circuit board applications b are same too, also using one module to realize10G Ethernet optical interface functions. Due to the the Xenpak light module is installed on the circuit board when the circuit board slottedto achieve more complex, can not achieve the high-density applications. About half of the Xenpak and X2 optical modules volumeimproved after only Xenpak directly into the circuit board, it is applied to high-density rack systems and PCI card applications.
Xenpak and X2 optical modules can provide two types of circuit interface: XAUI and Serial Framer Interface (SFI-4), can be used for10G Ethernet ,also can be used for OC-192 SDH and 10GFC. It can be said Xenpak and X2 have very similar standard, X2 changes reflected in the rail systemcompared Xenpak . The industry generally believe that the two specifications will eventually integrate.
