SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggables) can be simply interpreted asthe upgrade version of GBIC. SFP module volume ratio is reduced by half than GBIC module, more than double number of ports can be configured in the same panel. SFP Module  functions are same to GBIC , be known as Mini-GBIC.
